Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) today announced that Brittany Behenna Griffith has been named the new principal for the Nye Early Childhood Center beginning on January 3rd, 2022.

“We are so pleased to announce Brittany Behenna Griffith as Nye’s principal.  Ms. Behenna Griffith is a distinguished educator and leader who taught early childhood special education at Nye for nine years.  She will continue Nye’s strong emphasis on student development and learning so that each child can enter kindergarten ready to grow and thrive,” said Superintendent Hilario “Larry” Chavez. 

“It is my joy and honor to serve as the new principal at Nye.  I am excited to roll up my sleeves and work alongside an amazing group of educators. Together we will build a strong foundation and love of learning for our youngest students in the district,” said Ms. Behenna Griffith

Dr. Patricia Azuara, SFPs’ early childhood director, said, “The Early Childhood Program is excited to have Ms. Behenna Griffith appointed as Nye's Early Childhood Center leader. Her deep understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and special education background will be a great asset for Nye. I have confidence that Brittany's passion for early childhood education and commitment to staff, children and families will help the district achieve its goal of providing high-quality services for all children.”

Superintendent Chavez thanked outgoing principal Christi Foreman for her leadership and dedication to the three- and four-year-old children under her care.  “She has laid an important foundation at Nye and we greatly appreciate her service,”  he said.

Ms. Griffith, who holds National Board Certification as an early childhood generalist, currently serves as SFPS’ PreK curriculum support specialist and instructional coach.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Master of Education degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading.  She received the Golden Apple for Excellence in Teaching Award in 2019 and has championed increased funding for PreK programs and access to high-quality PreK programming as a Teach Plus Policy Fellow.
